Oregon Gambling

Oregon has nearly any form of gambling that players want. There are casinos on reservations. Poker clubs are available in some cities. There is a state lottery and slots at taverns. There is even a little online gambling available to Oregon players.

Oregon Online Gambling

The only form of legal online gambling in Oregon is horseracing. It is available over the Internet and on Android and iOS mobile apps. Sites that accept Oregon residents include TVG, TwinSpires and BetAmerica.

Daily fantasy sports sites also accept players from Oregon. These contests have participants choose athletes in multiple contests. Cash is required to enter these tournaments. The player or players with the highest point totals win. While some states have banned daily fantasy sports, Oregon has taken no action at this point. Daily fantasy sites that accept players from Oregon include DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo. All offer access through websites and mobile apps.

Oregon Casinos

There are 10 tribal casinos in Oregon. Games offered include slots, video poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, live poker and house-banked card games. There have been several attempts to expand commercial casinos to all of Oregon. Voters have defeated referendums that would have permitted this.

Oregon Racing

The oldest form of gambling in Oregon is racing. The first bets were accepted on horses and greyhounds in 1933. There are five tracks left in Oregon. The most active one is located at the Portland Meadows. This facility offers live races and off-track betting.

Oregon Poker Clubs

Loopholes in the social gaming laws allow live poker if a rake is not taken. To get around this, poker clubs charge an admission. The poker clubs also sell food and drinks. The status of poker clubs is controversial. Most of these clubs are located in Portland.

Oregon Lottery

The Oregon Lottery was created in 1985. It sells scratch-off and lotto tickets. This includes interstate drawings like Powerball and Mega Millions. Keno is also spread in bars and restaurants. These drawings are held every four minutes during normal business hours.

North Dakota licenses Bet America which accepts legal online wagers for horse racing, dog racing and fantasy sports. This is legal for residents of this state (please read their terms and conditions to ensure this has not changed).

Oregon Video Lottery

Oregon offers a video lottery in taverns. The first games were installed in March 1992. These games are slots, video poker and keno. The average video lottery terminal returns about 92%, much lower than a typical video poker machine. There are about 12,000 video lottery machines in Oregon spread among more than 2,000 establishments.

Oregon Bingo

Charities are permitted to offer bingo and other types of drawings in Oregon.

Oregon Sports Action

Oregon is exempted from the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). That federal law passed Congress in 1992 to prevent the spread of sports betting.

Oregon Sports Action, offered through the state lottery, was already live when PASPA was enacted. NFL parlay cards hit stores in 1989. NBA parlay cards were available the next year but were quickly discontinued. Portland Trailblazers’ games were not included in Oregon’s Sports Action.

The sports leagues were not amused. The NFL told the state that it would never get a team while sports gambling was legal. The NBA pressured the state to drop betting on its games. The NCAA refused to hold tournaments in Oregon while Sports Action was active even though no college sports were offered.

A 2005 law passed by the state legislature put an end to the Oregon Sports Action Lottery. The last NFL parlay tickets were sold at the end of the 2006 season.
