California Sports Betting Bill Pulled

No sports betting in the desert in California...

The proposed California Sports Betting Bill which would have been put to voters in the state in November this year, has earlier this week been pulled by one of its sponsors, California Senator Bill Dodd, after coming in for opposition from tribal casino operators.

The bill that if passed by voters in the November ballot, would have enabled sports betting in California’s tribal casinos and racetracks, but not in card rooms, which offer poker and other games. It would have had to be passed today by lawmakers to make it through to the November ballot initiative.

The news of the proposed bill being pulled at the eleventh hour has subsequently had a detrimental effect on the share prices of William Hill Group and Flutter Entertainment, the owners and operators of Betfair and Paddy Power.
