Last Minute Signing Of D.f.s. Bill By Mississippi Governor (update)

Bill S 2541 legalising daily fantasy sports passed last month on a large majority, but governor has taken his time to sign it into law

Mississippi officially became the fourth US state to legalise daily fantasy sports Friday when – just before the deadline – Gov, Phil Bryant signed bill S 2541 into state law.
The bill received overwhelming support in the state Legislature mid-April and the delay in signing has not been explained.
The state attorney general originally declared in a January opinion that DFS constituted gambling and was therefore illegal in Mississippi, but that was overturned in the Legislature by lawmakers voting for regulation.
The law is set to self-repeal after one year, after which lawmakers will again consider their options.
DFS operators who exited the Mississippi in the wake of the AG opinion may now return, subject to conditions set out in the new law.
The Mississippi legislation creates a Fantasy Contest Task Force to oversee operators, requiring them to register and comply with player protection requirements but not apparently imposing a licensing requirement.
