Fanduel Co-Founder And CEO Departs For New Esports Venture

Co-founder and chief executive officer of daily fantasy sports provider FanDuel, Nigel Eccles, is leaving the firm to focus on a new eSports venture.

Eccles confirmed the development via a tweet on Twitter, saying: “Excited but a little bit sad to be leaving @fanduel today.”

Eccles, who has spent eight years building FanDuel, will be succeeded by Matt King.

King, who served as chief financial officer of FanDuel from 2014-2016, will join the Board with immediate effect.

“Nigel achieved something remarkable — he completely redefined an existing industry,” a statement from the Board of FanDuel reads. “His passion, intelligence, and focus have been the bedrock of FanDuel’s success. We would like to offer our sincere thanks as he leaves to pursue his next venture. We are excited to work with Matt again. He is an exceptional executive who knows the business intimately, and has a clear vision for its next phase of growth.”
